What makes a solar landing page actually convert

Click a solar ad and you'll usually land on the company homepage: a carousel, a paragraph about being family-run, links to twelve other pages. The homeowner came with one question - "should I call these people?" - and the page answers with a tour of the filing cabinet.

A landing page is different. It exists for one traffic source, makes one argument, and asks for one action. When you're paying for every visitor, that focus is the difference between a campaign that works and one that quietly bleeds.

The seven elements that matter

1. A headline that mirrors the search

Someone who searched "solar panel installation Newcastle" should land on a page that says exactly that. Message match is the cheapest conversion lift available: the visitor instantly knows they're in the right place, and Google rewards the relevance with a better Quality Score and cheaper clicks.

2. A savings calculator, not a brochure

The single question every homeowner has is "what would this actually save me?" An interactive calculator - roof size, direction, current bill - answers it in their numbers, not yours. It also earns the right to ask for contact details, because the visitor has invested thirty seconds and wants their result. This is the centrepiece of every landing page we build.

3. Qualification built into the form

"Do you own your home?" is not friction - it's a filter. Two or three property questions remove tenants and daydreamers before they ever cost you a phone call, and signal to serious buyers that you're a serious operation.

4. A phone number that's the hero, not the footer

High-intent homeowners call. The number belongs at the top, repeated after every major section, wired into call tracking so every ring is attributed. On mobile it should be a tap-to-call button, permanently visible.

5. Accreditation where it can be seen

MCS certification, insurance backing and manufacturer approvals close the trust gap for a purchase this size. Homeowners have read the horror stories; your accreditations are the counter-evidence. Put them above the fold, not on an "about" page nobody visits.

6. Real local proof

One photo of an actual installation in a recognisable local street beats ten stock images of panels at sunset. Google reviews embedded live - not screenshotted - do the same work for credibility.

7. One action, everywhere

Call or request a callback. Not "download our brochure", not a newsletter, not social icons leaking visitors to Instagram. Every element either moves the visitor toward the phone call or it gets cut.

Speed is a conversion element too

Solar searches skew mobile, and mobile visitors are impatient. A page that takes four seconds to load loses a chunk of its visitors before making its argument. It's why we build on modern static infrastructure rather than heavyweight site builders.

Send ads to a dedicated page, never your homepage

It's worth stating plainly, because most installers get it wrong: the page your ad points to should not be your homepage. A homepage serves everyone - past customers, job applicants, suppliers - and so it serves no one in particular. A landing page serves exactly one person: the homeowner who just clicked an ad about solar. Every extra link, every unrelated section, every navigation menu is an exit you paid for. Strip the page back to a single argument and a single action, and your conversion rate climbs without spending another pound on ads.

How do you know if your page actually converts?

Feelings aren't data. The only way to know whether a page works is to measure it: what share of visitors take the action you want. If 100 people arrive from ads and two call, that's a 2% conversion rate - and moving it to 4% doubles your enquiries on the same budget. Watch the number over time, change one thing at a time - the headline, the form length, the position of the phone number - and keep what wins. That discipline is why a properly built and measured page beats a prettier one nobody tests, and it feeds the call tracking that tells you which ads and pages produce real phone calls, not just clicks.

The page is only half the system

A landing page doesn't work in isolation. It's the middle link between the ad that earns the click and the tracking that proves the call - which is why we never hand over a page without the campaign and measurement around it. If you want to see how those pieces fit together end to end, our how it works page walks through the whole sequence.

Get the page right and every other part of the campaign works harder, because the same traffic converts at a higher rate - which is the cheapest growth there is.

We build pages like this for installers as part of our landing page service - calculator included, tracking wired in, deployed and live. Or see examples of our work.
